PRISHTINA, 27 FEBRUARY 2009 - Anti-Corruption Agency would like to clarify to the public its attitude regarding non-approval of Anti-Corruption Strategy by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.
According to Anti-Corruption Law responsibility for developing anti-corruption strategy belongs to the Anti-Corruption Agency.
Consequently, and taking into account the need that Kosovo has for an anti-corruption strategy and recommendation given in the Progress Report of European Commission that Kosovo urgently needs such a document, ACA with a strong commitment entered the process of drafting this document as well as anti-corruption action plan.
The process for developing anti-corruption strategy has been open and in its finalization participated exactly 21 of the Kosovo institutions and the Council of Europe expert, which means that they gave full relevance and legitimacy to it as a national document against corruption. Referring to the Anti-Corruption Law ACA finished this project and delivered the strategy in early September 2008 to the Government of Kosovo which proceeded it to the Assembly earlier this year. Three functional commissions of the Parliament gave the green light to place this document for adoption in the Assembly.
However, at the session yesterday (Thursday, 26 February 2009), most of the MPs voted against the adoption of this document. Kosovo Anti-Corruption Agency complies with this decision of the members of the Assembly.
Development of anti-corruption strategy is just one of many anti-corruption tasks that the Agency has. Due to the fact that Kosovo society needs an environment of dignity and without corruption, ACA once again states its strong commitment to combating this phenomenon that is trying to scour the spirit of Kosovo society. Also, it shows commitment to the review of Strategy document and to the conclusion of the action plan which is in the drafting process.
ACA encourages citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, who from the beginning were the main ally in our fight against corruption, to continue to faithfully cooperate with us so that corruption as a present phenomenon in Kosovo is cut off.
